“This nomination feels like a validation of what we are doing is working and that people appreciate our work,” said Nik.

After receiving a heritage grant from the council, the pair managed to transform the former Irish Bank in St Martins into a deli.

They say the venue was what one of the factors that brought them to Leicester.

“Our branch in Nottingham is also located in an old bank and when this venue opened up in Leicester it felt like it was meant for us,” said Nik.

Sangita added: “I guess you can say destiny brought us here.”
