DMU Journalism student to take to the pitch in People’s FA Cup

By Luke Smith

This year’s FA Cup has seen a number of spectacular performances from over-achievers like Sutton United, Lincoln City and Millwall FC, and six Journalism students from De Montfort University are hoping to find their way to Wembley in similar fashion.

The team, named ‘DMU Journo Lads’ will be captained by Luke Smith and managed by Ruairi O’Connor, with the rest of the team consisting of Alex Blackwell, Conor de Smith, Dylan Durbin, Ross Barnett and Oliver Heppenstall as the resident goalkeeper.

Blackwell explained that the competition had been “found on Social Media and it was simply a case of texting friends and asking them to play.”

The competition will commence on Wednesday 22nd February at ‘Goals’ in Leicester, and the ‘DMU Journo Lads’ will certainly be hoping to make history and get to the hallowed turf of Wembley in just twelve weeks time!
