PREVIEW by Haris Khawaja
Timothée Chalamet fans across the world were left stunned after the first teaser for Dune: Part Three dropped.
This came just a day after Marty Supreme left the Oscars ceremony empty handed.
But Chalamet’s ‘pursuit of greatness’, was still far from over.
The teaser followed the release of a moody poster showing a scarred Paul Atreides looking menacingly at us with his deep blue eyes.
Perhaps this teaser helped to ‘sway the non-believers’, as the surprise drop quickly reignited Oscar-buzz around the actor, and extinguished the controversial comments the actor had recently made about ballet and opera which spread like wildfire.
Many also saw this as a direct response to his recent awards disappointment, despite the critical reception and commercial success of Marty Supreme (which later became A24 studio’s highest grossing movie.)
One X user wrote: “Starting to think the Dune: Part Three teaser dethroned The Batman as the best teaser of the decade.”
Both movies, of course, star Robert Pattinson.
Another Instagrammer added: “Forget the Oscars …he’s got a franchise to finish.”
Perhaps Timothée has become larger than the Oscars among fans?
The film continues after the events of Dune: Part Two, with Paul Atreides becoming the emperor after defeating Austin Butler’s sadistic and maniacal Feyd-Rautha, igniting the prophesied holy war across the galaxy.
Speaking at a Warner Bros panel, director Denis Villeneuve indicated the film features a longer time jump (17 years) as opposed to the 12-year gap depicted in Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, as the story moves into a darker phase.
He said: “This one is a thriller: it’s more action-packed, more dense, more muscular.”
The ensemble cast other than Chalamet as Paul Atreides include Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Zendaya as Chani, , Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Antagonists Robert Pattinson as Scytale and Jason Momoa as Hayt, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides
The film is set for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026, the same date as Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, prompting online speculation over a potential box office clash.
Like Barbenheimmer, which was a cultural shift in film history, Avengers: Dunesday has also started to trend.
But the question remains… will Timothée finally get his hands on the Oscar, or will he fall short once again?
