Have you ever seen Jesus in jeans and a Man United top? In his new comedy show Saints Alive, Richard Atkinson opened with the amusing tale of growing up in a Catholic household and his biblically inaccurate drawings of Christ.
In the beautiful, timeless surrounds of Leicester Cathedral, Atkinson delivered a light-hearted act without devaluing the stories of saints through the ages.
Linking back to his Jesus in jeans escapade, he recounted the history of Carlo Acutis, who was canonised as a saint just last year after his death in 2006. Carlo could always be seen in jeans and a jersey top, even in religious statues made in his memory.
Atkinson, an accountant whose work fuses his interests in Christianity and history, first worked with the Leicester Comedy Festival after his 2024 War of the Roses show.
