Culture Kick: Sara Doktorova

Zootropolis 2

Students on De Montfort University’s Music, Film and Entertainment Journalism module pick the films, plays, music, TV shows and books that shaped them

The TV show I’m currently binging I used to be a K-drama addict. I have watched more than 100 shows since 2019. But I have currently kicked the habit. Instead, I’m watching an interesting Turkish series called Yali Capkini, which my cousin recommended. It’s about two young sisters who are abused by their father, who forces the young girls into arranged marriages.

My favourite TV show as a kid Any Disney Channel show. For example, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir and Wizards of Waverly Place.

The book I couldn’t put down The Fashion Detective. I liked the fact that it was set in Paris and it had so many cliffhangers that I finished reading the book in three days, since then I just stopped reading books.

My favourite film My favourite movies of all time are the Maze Runner series (all three movies) and Need for Speed, which I have watched more than a hundred times. I would gladly rewatch them again. The last movie I saw at the Leicester Showcase cinema was Stray Kids The Dominate Experience, which was amazing, although the sound wasn’t that good – not a big deal. I watched Zootopia 2 at home yesterday. Overall, a very entertaining animated movie.

My first album The first album I ever listened to would be Revival, by Selena Gomez. It features my all-time favourite song, Slow Down. I was 10 years old when I first heard it and was immediately struck by Selena’s powerful voice.

The lyrics I love This changes every month, by the way, but currently it would be Vamos, I know that you want it, BOOM.  Chk Chk Boom, by Stray Kids.

The song that gets me on the dance floor The songs that I usually dance to are Chk Chk Boom and Ceremony by Stray Kids. I have recently learned the choreographies to these two songs. The songs are very upbeat and cool.

My karaoke standby I used to sing all the time when I was a kid and a teenager, but now I only sing when I am home alone. The song I sang along to in the cinema with the other Stray Kids fans (Stays) would be Miroh.

My guilty pleasure Listening to my favourite Stray Kids’ songs all day. And then, finally at the end of the day … rewatching all my favourite Stray kids’ performances on YouTube.
