There’s metal, and then there’s Aethers Reckoning. The Leicester-based band will be bringing the fire to Firebug every Tuesday with DMU Music Society and then return to wreck The Big Difference on the last Thursday of every month.
Led by 18-year-old, Lincoln-born, guitar-shredder Jack Wood, Aethers Reckoning rejects the polished, radio-friendly direction of today’s metal in favour of something raw, uncensored, and unapologetically loud. Two unmissable nights of pure metal-core carnage awaits. That’s two chances to say you were there.

Before bands sell out arenas or headline festivals, they cut their teeth in places like Firebug and The Big Difference. There’s no exclusivity in a venue where the stage is a foot off the ground, and the front row is inches from the mic stand. With a capacity of 350 combined, Aethers Reckoning’s performance will not only be a personal experience but an out-of-body one.
Wood has been wielding a guitar for a decade, and despite only just reaching adulthood, he makes it look effortless. “If our band had a slogan, it’d be ‘F*** you, I won’t do what you tell me,’” he says, a sentiment that bleeds into every note they play. Their sound is rebellious, technical, and untamed.
“Metal’s gone pop,” Jack says. “This isn’t that, we’re bringing back the grit.”
Think moshpits everywhere, roaring screams, and insane guitar riffs. These are not gigs where you stand still. Aethers Reckoning will make sure of that. Expect volume, sweat-stained shirts, and high energy all night. Leicester’s metal scene needs a good rave.
If metal’s got too polished for your taste, Aethers Reckoning might be the antidote. Think you’ve seen heavy? Think again. You don’t need to know every sub-genre of metal to enjoy it. This band will grab you by the throat and won’t let go. Catch you there.
