With pumpkins only just making their way to the bin, it might seem crazy to start talking about Christmas, but the city’s festive plans are already being put in place.
Maybe you are just getting the spooky facepaint scrubbed off your face, and the costumes put back into the cupboard for another year, but attention is starting to shift to this year’s festivities.
Leicester’s Christmas Lights Switch-On will mark the start of this year’s celebrations, with food, music and live entertainment filling the streets of Leicester.
The annual event takes place on Thursday, November 17, with a countdown being hosted by BBC Radio Leicester ahead of the switch-on at 6.30pm.
With COVID-19 disrupting the celebrations over the past couple of years, Christmas festivities had to be stripped back, but barring any COVID-related issues, festivities will be back to usual this year.
The city centre will be illuminated with more than 16,000 LED lights and a giant 46-foot Christmas tree at the clock tower.
The Jubilee Square ice rink is also set to return this year, alongside the Christmas wheel of light, offering great views of the city of Leicester.
The ice rink opens on Thursday, December 1, and will be open every day (except December 25 and January 1) until Monday, January 2.
Rachael Fraser, organiser at Christmas in Leicester, said: “The Jubilee Square ice rink seems to go down well every year, since we started doing it.
“It’s good fun for people of all ages, and this year we are introducing a bar next to the ice rink where you can buy hot drinks or alcoholic drinks, or both!”
Tickets for the Jubilee Square ice rink are now available to buy and range from £10-£12 for adults and £8.50-£9.50 for children, available at: https://tickets.christmasinleicester.co.uk/en-GB/shows/jubilee%20square%20ice%20rink%202022/events.
