Leicester restaurant week brings more food, more discounts, and more customers

By Liv Messum

With more than 35 restaurants, cafes, and dessert parlours taking part in Leicester restaurant week, date night got way less expensive for a short time.

Last week (OCT 17-23), many local eateries provided offers for discounted food, drinks and in one case, £1 meals for children.

For DMU student Emily Richmond, it made her 21st birthday that much more enjoyable.

She said: “With all the discounts on food going around, I was able to go out multiple times to celebrate my birthday.”

Emily went to the restaurant Black Iron Social for her birthday dinner where she got two courses for £20.

She said: “It’s such a good deal to have on, and I think it’s so smart because it not only allows for students to eat out more than normal, but it also encourages people to eat at places they never normally would’ve eaten at before.”

Another deal included in restaurant week was at Revolution, on New Walk, which offered £1 meals for children with one paying adult.

This was the second year that Leicester restaurant week has been around, and with the success of the week, it is likely that it will be around for a third year in a row in 2023.

More restaurants are being encouraged to ‘join the revolution’ and sign up to Leicester restaurant week.

The week was funded by BID Leicester, a non-profit, business-led organisation that aims to transform Leicester city centre into a better place to live, work, and study.
