Leicester is promising its residents the most magical experience this year, involving an amazing Adventure Trail.
Residents will be gathered in the town centre at the Clock Tower as a community switching on the Christmas lights, today [NOV18] at 6.30pm.
To make sure residents spread across the city centre, there will be no stage programme when lights are switched on this year, instead there will be a countdown, which will be played out on speakers in time for the lights switch-on.
Leicester resident, Kelsie Howarth, 25, said: “I can’t wait for this amazing experience, this is so great for the children, and it just enlightens the mood and puts everyone in the Christmas spirit.”
The city council spent £50,000 renewing the city’s decorations and replacing worn out fixtures and fittings.
Deputy city mayor, Piara Singh Clair, said: “The city council team will be working hard to make sure that Leicester, once again, looks magical throughout the festive season.
“I’m delighted that our celebrations will return to Leicester’s streets this Christmas, with just a few changes to make sure that people can join in safely.
“I hope that our festive lights will help put everyone in the mood for a very happy Christmas.”
To ensure that everyone has a great time and enjoys the magical experience there will be many activities before and after the Christmas lights switch-on, these include:
- Ice skating on a real ice rink
- Meeting Santa
- Taking a ride on the Wheel of Light
- A Winter Wonderland interactive adventure
- World class shows and watching classic Christmas shows
- Exhibitions and many more.
