Pioneer Park project given green light for lift off

By Luke Williamson

Large projects planned for land near the National Space Centre have received more than £19 million in funding from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

The first is two developments on land in Pioneer Park and Exploration Drive will now go ahead, which includes the building of two more Dock-style buildings as well as 4,000 square metres of manufacturing spaces.

The second project will see an area of land at Pioneer Park redeveloped for the University of Leicester’s Science Park, which will be home to space and satellite technology production facilities.

The Fund is designed to enable long term, low-carbon projects that create jobs and encourage new investments for businesses.

Both projects are set to be completed by Spring 2024. Meanwhile, the City has also received a further £17.6 million to go towards the first phase of regenerating Leicester railway station and £8.5 million towards redeveloping the former City Council premises in King Street.
