De Montfort Hall to host Leicester Symphony Orchestra anniversary show

By Thomas Carter

The Leicester Symphony Orchestra will be returning to De Montfort Hall this Saturday (23OCT) for a show celebrating music of the past 100 years.

Conducted by John Andrews and titled ‘Carmina Burana’, the performance will be a cantata (vocals and instrumentals) in the style of German composer George Orff.

Soloists Mark Wilde (tenor), Gillian Ramm (soprano), Marcus Farnsworth (baritone), and the Leicester Cathedral Children’s Choir will also feature.

The performance will be the first of a series of shows for the orchestra’s 100th season, with ‘Music at the Movies’ and ‘Classic Elvis’ concerts set to follow later in the year.
