From this week, Highcross will be home to the shipping container cocktail bar BoxBar.

If you’re going to the city for a beer this weekend, there’s an exclusive bar you can check out.

From Friday, April 30, BoxBar will reopen in the Highcross shopping centre, selling drinks, beers, ciders, and more.

Over the bank holiday weekend, the fun transformed retail container will be in St Peter’s Square, before returning the next weekend.

BoxBar was founded at the end of 2019 by three friends who came up with the idea for a funky mobile bar and wanted to build it in a former shipping container.

For the second time, BoxBar will visit the Highcross shopping centre and will serve a variety of drinks, including strawberry daiquiri, passion fruit martini, and pina colada. There will also be beers like Peroni and ciders like Thatchers available, as well as other beverages.

A dining area will be available where you can unwind with a beer and catch up with friends. Beer pong and ping pong are also available.

The visit of the bar to Highcross isn’t the only shipping container project in the works for the city center.

As part of a city council initiative to open up the St Martin’s shopping district, two vacant shops near Leicester Market will be demolished to make way for a new £2.6 million pedestrian connection between Green Dragon Square and Cank Street.

The car park at the rear of the shops, which would be freed up by the demolition, may be the site of a small, box-park-style building, in which shipping containers are used as pop-up venues for independent shops, bars, and restaurants, according to Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby.

Samuel Adowente a former dmu student stated: “I can’t wait for this to arrive finally something different to go to”.

From Friday, April 30 to Monday, May 3, the bar will be open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and from Friday, May 7 to Sunday, May 9, it will be open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

It is necessary to make a reservation in advance. Email @boxbar presents on Instagram or Facebook to reserve a table.
