Abbey park bonfire night cancelled

Leicester’s biggest bonfire and firework display for Bonfire Night in Abbey Park has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Abbey Park’s annual family bonfire event was meant to take place on 7 November from 5.00pm to 9.00pm with a funfair, live entertainment, and several warming food stalls.

Festivals and Events Senior Officer, Kellie Bugby commented: “Festivals, events, and celebrations are a big part of what makes Leicester special, sadly this year we cannot hold events like we usually would.”

Director of tourism, culture and inward investment Mike Dalzell added: “It’s obviously hugely disappointing that these popular events won’t be taking place this year, but with so much uncertainty around the coronavirus situation, the most important thing is that we keep people safe.”

Further details about any other festive attractions for 2020 will be released in the upcoming weeks.
