The effort to develop a COVID vaccine has come to Leicester today (NOV 26) with a vaccine trial opening and recruiting its first volunteer.
Pratik Choudhary, a Professor in type 1 diabetes and technology at the University of Leicester, is the first in Leicester to volunteer for the trials.
In an interview with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), which is running the trial, Pratik said: “We know that this virus disproportionately affects people from minority ethnic groups, and it is really important that we are represented in these studies.”
Up to 600 people from Leicester are expected to join Pratik in the vaccine trial, as part of 6,000 others across the UK.
