National Stadium Karachi, the venue of Tuesday’s season finale.

The Lahore Qalandars’ miraculous run in the Pakistan Super League, which drew comparisons to Leicester City’s unlikely Premier League triumph in the 2015-16 season, came to a crashing end on Tuesday after suffering defeat to the Karachi Kings in the Twenty20 tournament final.

The Kings secured a five-wicket victory to finally conclude the season, which was postponed in March due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic. The 2021 season is expected to begin in February.

Leicester-born Samit Patel, who signed a new two-year deal with the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on the day of the final, fell for five to Kings bowler Arshad Iqbal.

The Qalandars had finished bottom of the league every year since its inception in 2016. Their unlikely rise to the top of the league sparked comparisons to Leicester.
