Blaby District Council suspend garden waste collection

By Luke Pawley

Blaby District Council has suspended its garden waste collection service for two weeks.

Several binmen working for the council are required to self-isolate due to COVID-19, meaning the service cannot continue as normal between Monday, November 16, and Friday, November 27.

The council has confirmed that general waste and recycling bins will continue to be collected as normal.

Council neighbourhood services spokesman Councillor David Freer told the Leicester Mercury: “The decision to suspend the garden waste collection service for two weeks has not been taken lightly.

“This sensible approach is needed to keep our collections teams safe, and to protect our refuse and recycling collections so that they continue as normal.

“I’d ask residents to keep an eye on our website and our social media for updates.”
