Police are urging shop owners across Leicestershire to refuse to sell eggs to youths following reported incidents of vandalism in a county town this week.

“We would like to keep egging incidents this October and November to a minimum, as part of a wider plan to reduce antisocial behaviour as per our monthly priorities update we posted earlier this month which is all led by you,” said a post on Facebook by Melton Police.
As October is the month of Halloween, the police urged everyone not to partake in the act as it is a criminal offence.
“Eggs cause criminal damage to people’s properties and vehicles on impact, which can cost hundreds, or in some cases even thousands of pounds.”
Leicestershire Police warned the public that all incidents will be investigated and dealt with accordingly.
