Two men held at knifepoint in Bede Park

Two men were held at knifepoint and robbed of all of their valuables in Bede Park, Leicester, last week, Leicestershire Police has now confirmed.

Officers were called to a report of a robbery in Bede Park, Leicester, early on Thursday morning, October 11.

It was reported that two men, dressed in dark clothing, approached two other men in the park and demanded their mobile phones, cash, bank cards and PINs.

The victims, aged 19 and 21, were threatened with a knife and what was thought to be a bat.

Sophie Thundow, Senior Media Relations Officer at Leicestershire Police, said: “They handed over what was demanded and men left the scene.

“Both men were left unharmed.”

There have not yet been any arrests in connection with the incident on October 11.

Data, provided by, shows that 264 crimes have been reported in the Westcotes area, in which Bede Park is included, between September 2017 and August 2018.

Anyone who is a victim of crime or witnesses a crime is encouraged to report it to police, always calling 999 in an emergency.

Sophie Thundow continued: “In relation to the safety of Bede Park, we work closely with the local council to ensure the safety of green spaces.

“The trees and low-level foliage are periodically cut back to make the park more open, and lights have been installed.

“Two benches have recently been removed from the park, to discourage street drinkers from congregating.”

If anyone has any more information about the incident on October 11 they are urged to contact police on 101 and quote the reference number, ‘Incident 58 of 11 October’.

“We would urge people to stay to well-lit areas when out late and into the early hours of the morning, and to walk in large groups,” added Sophie Thundow.
