Leicester’s Diwali celebration preparation begins

By Alex Leadbitter

The preparations have begun as Leicester sets up to host a day of Diwali celebrations on Wednesday, November 7.

Leicester’s annual Diwali celebrations are renowned across the UK for featuring some of the biggest festivities outside India.

A large number of people are expected to turn up – Leicester City Council predicting crowds of about 40,000.

At these celebrations, activities ranging from art workshops and storytelling to family-themed events will be available for everyone.

Before the main celebrations on November 7, there will be a ceremony marking the switching on of the lights on Sunday, October 28, which will feature more than 6,000 lights.

Brochures about the Diwali events can be found from libraries, museums and from the Visit Leicester information office in Gallowtree Gate.
