R’n’B superstar comes to Leicester

American R’n’B artist Nelly was due to come to Leicester today (Wednesday), to perform at a city nightclub.

Club Republic was hosting the event with tickets continuing to sell online until the last minute.

The final release prices for the concert started at £10 while VIP tickets remained at £15 per person.

Nelly had previously performed at Club Republic’s partner, Blueprint, in the city in June 2016.

Nirali Patel, a fan of the singer, said: “I went to the gig when he was here last and he killed it, he performed all of his biggest songs from the naughties and that for me was when he was at his best.

“I really wanted to go this time because when he came last time I was in my first year at university and now he’s coming back.

“I’m in my final year now, so it might be a bit of a throwback night for me and my mates.”

Speaking about Leicester’s nightlife, she added: “Well Leicester’s not really like a Birmingham or London where there is a lot on at once, so it’s nice to have the chance to see these artists every now and then, as normal nights out can be a bit repetitive.

“I don’t really go out much now as I did when I first came to Leicester, I don’t know if that’s the nights out getting worse or just me getting older.”

The singer is expected to play a variety of his own tracks created over his career spanning nearly two decades.

More events coming up at Club Republic include drum and bass DJ High Contrast on 2nd December, as well as Radio 1Xtra DJ MistaJam hosting the club’s 7th birthday on the 16th December.

Elsewhere in Leicester, General Levy will be performing on November 18th at nightclub Streetlife.
