Coca Cola truck tour to bypass Leicester for first time in three years

By Daniel Siggins

Coca Cola has announced it will skip Leicester from its annual festive tour around the country, in favour of nearby Coventry.

It comes days after  the product was described as “grossly unhealthy” by a Liberal Democrat politician in Liverpool.

Two years ago Leicester East MP Keith Vaz, who is also Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes, said “The Coca-Cola truck is not welcome in Leicester, and this national tour to promote sugar-laden drinks is ill-judged and unwise at a time of record diabetes and obesity levels.

“Coca Cola have said the truck will not be giving their products to younger children, but this is clearly unenforceable.”

This will be the first time since 2014 the famous red truck has not come to Leicester.

The Leicestershire Press has reached out to Coca-Cola for comment and are awaiting a response.
