Leicester City Council is now offering free WiFi to visitors to Leicester city centre.
Areas around the Clock Tower, Jubilee Square, Richard III visitor’s centre and St Martin’s Square now all have accessible free WiFi.
Deputy City Mayor Councillor Rory Palmer, said in a press statement: “We already have free WiFi in our libraries and we know how popular WiFi hotspots in city centre coffee shops and other venues are.
“We’d like to be able to extend this offer so that people can get online even more easily. Free WiFi will also support our plans to promote economic growth in the city, and is now seen as essential infrastructure for a modern connected city,” Coun Palmer said.
The city council added, our existing CCTV network is being used to provide the WiFi, which should also improve mobile phone coverage as mobile operators will be able to deploy 4G technology in the city centre more easily.
To access the free WiFi, open settings, select WiFi and select follow the on-screen prompts to connect to the network.
Kerri Stevenson, a 2nd year De Montfort University journalism student said; “It’s really helpful especially for me being a journalism student, knowing I can always connect to the internet when out and about instead of using data on my phone.”
