Police searching for distraction burglar preying on the elderly

Police are hunting for a man in connection with three distraction burglary crimes against the elderly people of Leicestershire.

The first and second offences happened in Wigston on Friday 7 October at 5.15pm on Hazelwood Road and at 5.45pm in Cherry Street.

One of the two offences were unsuccessful but the burgled victim had her handbag stolen along with £60 cash.

On Sunday 9 October, some time between 4 and 4.45pm, an elderly woman had her bank card stolen while on the Saffron Lane Estate, Leicester and subsequently lost £1,500 from her account.

Detective Constable Adrian Davies, who is investigating the incidents, said: “We are keen to trace this man in connection with offences against three elderly and vulnerable people.

“In all three cases the suspect tried to gain entry or gained entry to the victim’s home after alleging to be carrying out work at the house. In one case a large amount of money was stolen and all victims have been left shaken by the ordeal.”

DC Davies is urging the public to view the photos of the suspect and share any information they may have with police.

DC Davies said: “Please take a look at the photos and if you recognise the man or have any details that can help please call us.”
