Chocolate lovers in Leicester are being encouraged to think about where their favourite treat comes from as part of National Chocolate Week.

Just Fair Trade, located at 36 Silver Street, have been promoting fair trade chocolate throughout the week with free samples and buy one get one free offers.

Assistant store manager Louise Davis said: “National Chocolate Week is a relatively new national initiative and we decided to use the week as a platform to promote fair trade chocolate.

“We want to show people that there’s a more ethical alternative to supermarket chocolate.”

Fair Trade products improve the lives of farmers worldwide by ensuring they receive the money they deserve, in exchange for the resources they grow and are not financially exploited.

The main brand being promoted throughout the week is Divine Chocolate, a fair trade product made with cocoa grown in Ghana.

Divine Chocolate is part owned by the cocoa farmers so allows them to have a direct say in how the business is run as well as receiving a fair share of the profits.

It was also voted the UK’s favourite fair trade product as part of an award ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Fair Trade Foundation on Wednesday, October 15.

There are free samples of Divine Chocolate in store and a buy one get one free promotion on 100g chocolate bars.

Promotions and offers will continue in the store until Saturday, October 18.

As well as chocolate Just Fair Trade also stocks a range of other fair trade food and products.
