For one night only the student population of Leicester are taking over the city’s largest shopping centre.

Highcross shopping centre will be opening its doors to students from 8.30pm on Tuesday, October 14 where restaurants and retailers will offer major discounts and freebies.

The annual event, called Student Sessions attracts students from both De Montfort University and University of Leicester.

Assistant manager at Leicester’s Superdry store, Kim Smith said: “I’ve seen every student take over. It’s always amazing, it’s a really good laugh.

“We’ve got an in-store DJ this year and we all dress up and basically party with the students – it’s like a night out.”

Sales assistant from Highcross gadget shop Red5, Kate said: “We put on some good music to create a good atmosphere and it gets really busy, it’s good fun.

“We’ve done every year so far, this year we’re offering a percentage off everything in store.”

The majority of stores in the shopping centre are staying open late, until 12am.

Ms Smith from Superdry added: “We’ve got free goody bags that we’re giving away to the first 200 customers this time.

“Last year we did a goody bag with £15 worth of underwear in for the first 100, but we’ve doubled it this year because the footfall is meant to be so much bigger.”

As well as discounts and freebies, the restaurant handmade burger Co have announced they will be giving away free burgers for a year.

The winner is to be announced on the night of the student takeover.
