Emma Lewis, 20, of Stretton Road, was studying Mechanical Engineering with Daniel Fenwick, 20, who died of suspected cardiac arrest after suffering from an asthma attack in his Braunstone Gate flat on Sunday September 28.

Miss Lewis said: “I think everyone is still in a state of shock. Our course feels very different without him there.”

Mr Fenwick was in his third and final year of university and due to commence term on Monday September 29.

“A friend off my course told me after he found out from one of Dan’s housemates,” she added.

Floral tributes and messages have been paid to Mr Fenwick outside of Mill Lane’s Queen’s Building where he did the majority of his studying.

Miss Lewis added: “I used to walk to and from university with Dan last year because we lived around the corner from each other.

“We sat in lectures and tutorials together and we cooked dinner for each other a few times. We would play apps on our phones during lectures and we’d always get really competitive on who could get the best score,” she added.

Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have been full of condolences to the student.

“Dan was a great guy with a brilliant sense of humour. He was such a genuine person and an amazing friend. He will be sorely missed,” said Miss Lewis.
