Popeye’s restaurant receives zero star food rating

By Barbara Uzoigwe

A popular post-student night out takeaway, Popeye’s Pizzas and Burgers, has been given a zero rating by food safety inspectors, following a routine inspection last month.

The fast-food restaurant, located in Welford Road, failed in three inspection sections including “hygiene food handling” which looks at the way food is prepared, cooked and stored.

It also lacked cleanliness and any appropriate layout, ventilation and pest control.

The rating means that urgent improvements are needed to be made within the business.

Major improvements are also required to happen with the management of food safety, and making sure that the food served is safe to be eaten.

The restaurant will remain closed until the issues are addressed, and a re-inspection has taken place.
