People are being encouraged to sign up for a charity run in eight weeks’ time in memory of De Montfort University Journalism graduate Adam Redfern who died away after a cardiac arrest.
The Run for Redfern, set up by Adam’s parents Ian and Christine, is an opportunity for the community to come together in his memory by taking part in the 5K run on Sunday, March 9, in Victoria Park at 11.15am.
“Adam had a great sense of humour, got involved in everything and was a kind and thoughtful person,” said his mother Christine.

Abi Battisto, VCSE engagement manager at Leicester City Council and a friend of Adam, said: ”Adam was a person to bring home and a sporty guy who loved taking part in every sport, especially football.”
The Run for Redfern will start in Victoria Park, will take in two laps of the park, before going down New Walk onto the De Montfort University campus, finishing by the campus centre building.
There will be a short tribute to Adam and a moment’s applause at 10.55am, before the run, with T-shirt collections open from 10.15am.
New to the Leicester run this year is the Heartsafe team race that will be on the same day as the 5K run. This race is open for DMU students and staff, students’ union staff, as well as university clubs, societies, and groups.
Christine added: ”Adam was well known by staff and students at De Montfort University for his ‘dad jokes’ – or even his ‘grandad jokes’!”
The group run will start at 11am, before the 5K run which will follow the same route.
This year you can also get involved to learn about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), on a scheme which started in October with the British Heart Foundation.
It takes just 15 minutes to learn about CPR by using a phone and a pillow. For more information, visit the website www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes
