The majority of Bradgate Park could have been wiped out by fire

By Grace Morgan

Bradgate Park was set ablaze on Saturday afternoon by what is thought to have been a discarded cigarette.

Staff were alerted to the blaze by visitors after smoke was seen coming from the Cropston end of the park.

The quick actions of the staff on duty and the Birstall Fire Service have been praised for containing the fire quickly and preventing it from ‘taking out the majority of the park.’
