De Montfort University men’s basketball team responded positively to last week’s local derby defeat with a crucial home victory over Oxford on Wednesday night, boosting confidence ahead of a major fixture in March.
DMU were beaten by University of Leicester in a difficult away match last Wednesday, a result that highlighted areas for improvement as the season moves into its decisive stage.
However, the Leicester-based side showed resilience and determination in their most recent outing, delivering a composed and energetic performance to secure a well-earned win over Oxford.
The victory followed an intense week of training, with had coach pushing the squad to raise standards after the setback.

“We’ve been training very hard since the last game” she said. “The players knew they had more to give, and I’m proud of the outcome last night. They showed great commitment and focus.”
DMU controlled the tempo throughout the game, combining disciplined defence with confident offensive play.
They set the tone early and maintained their composure during key moments, preventing Oxford from building momentum, and seeing the game out strongly.
Despite the positive result, the coach stressed that the work is far from over. With a significant match scheduled for March, preparation remains a priority as the team looks to build consistency.
“There’s still a lot of preparation to do,” she added. “This result is encouraging, but we’re focused on improving every week, especially with a big match coming up.”
The victory provides a timely boost for DMU as they continue their campaign, restoring confidence after last week’s setback. If the team can carry the intensity forward, they will be well placed heading into the crucial stages of the season.
DMU will now turn their attention back to training as they look to build on Wednesday night’s success and prepare for the challenge ahead.
