Leicester Heritage Fair and Military History Live are both due to return to the Adult Education Centre in Leicester.

The events offer a wide range of activities and also people are also invited to bring their own objects to the event.

“People are desperate for learning about other people’s heritage,” said John Coster, 58, who organises both of the events.

People can come to the heritage fair with items about where they are from and stories about how they came to Leicester.

“You can actually do some live research about your family and where they’re from,” said John, who started Military History Live seven years ago.

“We’re growing and developing all the time. I’ve got more exhibitors now than I had in February, and we had more in February then we did in November.”

The last heritage fair had more than 200 people come to the Adult Education Centre in Belvoir Street to see the different objects and people.

The inspiration for the Heritage Fair and Military History Live was from the people and the places that they came from.

John also works with schools across the city, including Leicester College as well as both universities in Leicester.

“The challenge for us is how to keep them going financially,” added John, who said they are looking for new partners to help keep the event going.

Another issue the fair had faced was with the frequency of it, and how many fairs should be done in a year.

“It’s all run by volunteers and we put a lot of hard work into it and we also fund it and make it work.”

The heritage fair is tomorrow(SAT,MAY11) with more details about the event being found on their website.
