A first year De Montfort University student is developing a table-top role-playing game (TTRPG) inspired by the Assassin’s Creed video game series.
Filip Nowicki, 19, is creating a D20-based TTRPG system similar to Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) which places emphasis on stealth and parkour rather than combat.
“After a conversation with a friend I realised that a lot of different media can be enhanced with a TTRPG system based on them as players being more immersed in the game,” Mr Nowicki said.
Video game Cyberpunk 2077 is directly based on the Cyberpunk TTRPG created by Mike Pondsmith in 1988 which can be seen drawing inspiration from the movie Blade Runner from 1982, relating to how different media can be enhanced with a TTRPG system to make players more immersed.

“The game will incorporate a focus system which means when you roll a 16-sided die, depending on how well you roll, you qualify for different stakes, for example stealth taking down an enemy,” Mr Nowicki said.
The Journalism student plans to write all his plans for the game down and then put it on a document and share it for free, with him working on the game throughout the year, aiming for it to be released next year.
The Netflix show Stranger Things has helped TTRPG systems such as Dungeons and Dragons, which plays a crucial part in the show, get displayed as games to a wider audience and with the final season released not too long ago, the popularity for another similar game would be at a high.
