Students at De Montfort University have welcomed extended library opening hours to 24 hours during the exam period, saying the changes have helped them manage revision alongside part-time work.
Trupti Jani, a Librarian at Kimberlin Library, said: “As long as students have their student card, they can come and go as they please.”
Students said later opening times reduced stress and made study schedules more flexible. University officials said the decision followed student feedback and was introduced to support wellbeing and academic performance during busy assessment periods.
Mariana Brede, a first year De Montfort University Politics student, said: “It’s so helpful for students who are always on a time crunch as it takes away some of the pressure.”
However, some students said libraries still become overcrowded at peak times and have called for more quiet study areas and additional seating to be made available throughout the exam season.
Journalism student Uche Okogwu said: “It’s great! It’s really great for those who have pressure and deadlines. It gives them the chance to get their work done and not feel stressed or worried about it. It also allows for the resources to be used too.”
