Amazon accused of wasting resources by over packaging deliveries

One Leicester resident is getting all wrapped up with Amazon oversized packaging.

Kate Sansome, 40, The Avenue, Glenfield, is tired of getting over packaged items from Amazon.

IMG_2704(1)Kate, a regular customer with Amazon ordered some filters and was shocked to discover the filters arrived in three times larger than the actual filters.

Kate said: “This is not the first time that Amazon has wasted so much material. Last year I ordered a grappler and there was enough paper in the box to stretch to the end of my living room. I made a complaint then but got no reply.”

Leicestershire Press contacted Amazon for a comment but was sent a standard reply with a link to their packaging process which states:

“We want to optimise the overall customer packaging experience. This includes driving improvements in the sustainability of packaging across Amazon’s supply chain, starting with our own packaging and our own operations.

About 25 million times a year, customers write to tell us they love how their products have been packaged – sending us pictures and stories that our packaging and fulfilment centre teams love to hear. They also tell us when our packaging hasn’t worked – when their products were damaged, when the box used was too big, or just too hard to open. This informs our worldwide packaging team and allows us and our vendors to make improvements.”

Kate added: “There was no reason why the filters could not have been packaged in a standard envelope, it is just a waste of money and resources. If I ran a business the way Amazon did there packaging I would be out of business.”

Kate explained that she will keep ordering from Amazon and will be contacting them every time they send over sized packaging.
