Students facing challenges accessing loans at Leicester universities want increased support

By Kelly Gowe

Students at universities in Leicester have spoken out about the challenges they face in accessing loans due to strict requirements for evidence.

Emily Wilson and Ahmed Patel described the process as complex and time-consuming, with limited support from university staff.

Emily said: “It’s frustrating that I have to jump through so many hoops just to get a loan.

“I’ve been asked for documents I don’t have, and the deadlines are so tight that I worry I won’t get the money I need.”

Advocacy groups have called for greater transparency and more university support to ensure all students can access the financial assistance they need.

They want more streamlined loan application processes and improved guidance to alleviate financial burdens on students to enable them to focus on their studies.
