New Walk Museum to hold Leicester strong women tour

By Adam Dutton

New Walk Museum and Art Gallery are hosting a guided tour this month centred around Leicester’s strong women.

The guided tour starts on Wednesday, March 18, with tours leaving from the historic Guildhall building in the centre of Leicester.

There will be three tours, with the earliest starting from 11:30am on the Wednesday, with the last starting at 14:30pm on the same day.

Hannah Jowett, 20, a student at DMU, will be attending one of the guided tours. She said: “I think it is a great idea that they’re doing walks on some of the great women of Leicestershire.

“Having moved to Leicester to study at DMU, I don’t know much about the area. It’s always interesting to find out about anything historical, but because this is about the strong women of the city’s past it was really intriguing.

“I’m a strong believer of equal rights so this is perfect for me.”

Attendees will be able to find out about the numerous historical and significant women of Leicestershire while learning about the society they lived in.

The Guildhall, where the tours will be led from, is the oldest building in use in the city, being built in around 1390.

The New Walk Museum leads numerous tours and holds a variety of exhibitions.
