A Leicester MP has warned that Labour’s general election result could spell the end of the party.
Jonathan Ashworth, MP for Leicester South and Shadow Health Secretary, told BBC Radio 4 that action had to be taken to save the party, which has been out of government for a decade.
“Unless we do something quick this could be the end of the Labour party in this country,” he said.
Labour suffered its worse defeat since 1935 in last December’s election, losing 60 seats from the 2017 vote.
Despite this, they still gained more votes compared to defeats in 2010 and 2015.
