A new McDonald’s restaurant on the A5 roundabout outside Hinckley is set to open in March, prompting fresh fears of traffic chaos.

Motorists heading north along Dodwells Road are already facing increased congestion, with one lane having closed at the end of January to make room for work on the drive-thru at the restaurant.
Jackie Marshall, whose commute takes her past the new fast-food site, said: “The roundabout is already busy at peak times and this will impact me getting to work. I don’t see why it is necessary when there is another McDonald’s just up the road.”
The roundabout is notorious at rush hour for slowing drivers to a crawl.
A previous proposal for a branch of the fast-food chain on the site was refused in 2014 over concerns about increased congestion but was granted on appeal.
A spokesman for McDonald’s told Leicestershire Live: “We are pleased with these works and our ambition is to open in March.”
