Second CEM Placement Team talk scheduled after full booking

By Oliver Taylor

The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media’s Placement Team at De Montfort University are holding a second talk for first year students on March 27 from 2-3pm.

The talk will guide students through positioning themselves to secure a successful 12 month placement opportunity.

Phil Grierson, Placement Coordinator, explained that placement opportunities are a “real opportunity to put the skills and experience you already have into practice.

“A placement is a huge advantage to students, with many receiving graduate job offers whilst still on placement.

“Beyond this, students have had degrees paid for including up to PhD level.”

Previous placements organised by the team have been in China, Germany and across the United Kingdom.

The Placement Team are currently offering nine exclusive paid opportunities. Grierson said “we do advertise a range of exclusive paid opportunities at De Montfort University itself.

“We have developed exclusive relationships with a number of employers meaning that only DMU students are eligible.”

There is a wide variety of research and statistics to show that placement opportunities give students a major advantage in future employability. According to the High Fliers Research Report 2016, 32 per cent of 2016 positions were expected to be filled by graduates who have already worked for their organisations.

Furthermore, according to High Fliers, The Graduate Market in 2019, graduates who have had no previous work experience at all are unlikely to be successful during the selection process for their graduate programmes.

The CEM Placement Team are located in room 4.13 in the Gateway House.

The session will include an overview of the placement process, the support offered at the university, previous placements, details on how to use My Gateway, an opportunity to ask any questions and begin the registering process.

Students can book a spot on My Gateway here.
