Leicester to celebrate Holi

The Hindu spring festival ‘Holi’ is coming back to Leicester on Saturday March 23 at Abbey Park between 11am and 4pm.

It will be free to enter and is a family friendly event that will combine a host of communities from across Leicester.

Thousands of residents are expected to attend the festival which marks the beginning of spring.

There will be a host of activities and a stage with entertainment. Holi is a colourful festival and coloured waters and powders will be used during the celebrations.

De Montfort University hosts UCAS Fair

The annual UCAS Higher Education Fair came to De Montfort University (DMU) yesterday and continues to run today.

As reported by DMU, the event is expected to see between 7,000 and 8,000 Year 12 students from the county, who are looking to embark on their next adventure in life.

This campus-based event will be based in The Venue at DMU and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre.

It is expected that the majority of the UK’s universities, colleges in the area, UCAS representatives and industry professionals will be attending.

The event runs each day from 9.30am to 3pm.

Resolution Run in Braunstone Park raising money for Stroke Association

Having already raised £200,000 for Stroke Association with over 2,000 events across the UK, Resolution Run shows there’s no better reason to help someone across the finish line.

The 34 non-competitive events comprising of numerous 5k, 10k and 15k runs have an easy online sign-up which easily highlights your nearest run.

An online twitter page also provides a platform for runners to discuss the run in advance, chat to other runners and talk about difficult times they may have experienced involving someone close who has suffered from a stroke.

New 100&Six cocktails bar set to open

Kal Ruparell, the owner of one the most popular cocktail bars in Leicester, 33 Cank Street, is set to open a new bar later on in the month.

The new cocktail bar “100&Six” is set to open on Thursday,  March 14, in Queens Road, Leicester.

The new venue is also set to be an eatery, as well as a bar and will sell small dishes to accompany those wanting a delicious and refreshing cocktail.

The new bar will be accompanying a wide range of shops and eateries in the bustling Clarendon Park area of Leicester.

 

Feminists Unlimited to run International Women’s Day celebration

Feminists Unlimited will be running an event on Thursday, March 14, to celebrate International Women’s Day at TheVenue@DMU (De Montfort University).

There will also be a number of local inspirational women speakers, including Sandra Pollock, Ulrike Kubatta and many more.

They invite all to come and join them in celebrating the strengths, creativity, unity and wit of women across Leicestershire.

At the event there will be numerous artists, comedians, authors, poets and musicians.
