A Leicester golf club has become one of the first in the Midlands to sport Toptracer technology.
Leicester Golf Centre opened its driving range early in October, but the course – aptly named ‘The Gallops’ due to it’s location next to Leicester racecourse – is not due to open until next year.
The technology allows golf fanatics to use a QR code to measure the length of their drives, play closest to the pin, and even play a virtual round of golf at world famous courses.
Tom James, the PGA Professional at Leicester Golf Centre, said: “Our course is due to open in March.
“It’s been closed for eight years, and it has taken a little more TLC to rejuvenate than we thought it was going to. It’s going to be a 9-hole parkland course, par 35 and about 3,100 yards.”
The Toptracer technology in actionThe golf centre is also used by the De Montfort University team to train for its league matches.
Toptracer utilises advance proprietary technology, making it the most used ball-tracking technology in golf.
According to the Toptracer website, the average visit time to a Toptracer driving range is two hours, it averaged 35,000 uses per day in 2017, and 51 per cent of users are either non-golfers or are new to golf.
