When you first hear about two people trying their hardest to punch each other unconscious, you may not think there is anything positive that can come out of it – however, this month in Leicester you’d be very wrong.
On October 20th, volunteers with just 8 weeks of fighting experience are going to step into an octagon-shaped cage and fight each other under MMA rules to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Ultra MMA is the company behind this idea and it has so far raised almost £700,000 from events such as this that have been held all over the UK, over £15,000 of which has been raised from this Leicester event alone.
Jamie Miller, 20, founder of ‘7eventh Sin’, a Birmingham-based streetwear brand, spoke of his experience fighting with Ultra MMA back in May.
Jamie said: “I got involved with Ultra MMA through an ad on Facebook. I’ve always been interested in MMA and I thought it would be a great experience and I’m always up for raising money for charity.
“The experience was absolutely crazy, training three times per week then walking out with everyone looking at you and chanting your name.
“The cage was smaller than I thought it would be and it was tough being in there with my opponent. I went the full three two-minute rounds but he had 10kg on me and I ended up losing via decision.” 
The event in Leicester is to take place at the King Power Stadium. Tickets are currently on sale and start from £20 per person.
