Dubois steps into the ring with Johnson this weekend in Leicester

By Ollie Churm

This Saturday sees Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois (8-0, 8 KOs) take on former world title challenger Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson (32-10-1, 16 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round fight at Leicester Arena.

Daniel Dubois is making his name known in the boxing world, having 8 knockouts in 8 fights at the age of just 20. However, a fight against the man that went the distance with the likes of Vitali Klitschko and Tyson Fury, may be his toughest one yet.

This fight will be a real age vs youth contest as the 20-year-old Dubois hopes to maintain his 8-knockout streak, in which, he has never seen a fight go past the 5th round, takes on the 39-year-old veteran Kevin Johnson.

The last time Kevin Johnson fought in a professional fight in the UK was when he took on Anthony Joshua in 2015 for the WBC international heavyweight title, in which he lost via a second-round stoppage.

It has to be questioned whether Dubois will see this fight as an opportunity to beat Johnson even faster than Joshua did, and with the power in the young fighters’ hands, a first-round knockout certainly cannot be ruled out.

Or maybe Johnson, who went the full 10 rounds with Andy Ruiz back in July, might try to hold out and make Dubois work harder than he has ever had to work before inside the ring?

Whatever happens, the fight is crucial in the making of Dubois’ career and on Saturday 6th October, all our questions will be answered.
