Design students to display art collection at Vijay Patel

Mel Vondy interviewDesign and Craft students at De Montfort University will be debuting an outstanding collection of art at the Vijay Patel building later this month.

The exhibition, Work in Progress: a collection of creative minds, is to be filled with art from the Design Crafts BA second year students, in the Vijay Patel’s Fletcher Suite and on the rooftop terrace from April 27 to April 30 with private viewings happening on the 27th.

The exhibition is open to all on the 28th and 30th from 10am until 4pm.

Max Renkel, in his second year, said: “We all wrote oMax Renkel artur own briefs, so there’s a massive mix of art on display. I decided to focus on metal and jewellery with a partial inspiration from historical costumes.”

Melissa Vondy said: “My art is mainly inspired by nature and how to recover it” while Lucy Pendlebury said: “I decided to create a collection of tableware with natural influences.”

She also said: “There’s such a broad variety of art on display, everyone’s got something worth seeing. Everyone has a really unique approach to what they’re doing, you’ll never see two similar pieces of art.”

Max added: “Some of what’s on display is definitely more functional, but there’s also a lot that’s much more decorative” while Melissa added: “Everyone is incredibly talented, it’s really hard to pick an individual favourite from everything that’s going on display.”
