Leicester Tigers players spread the love on Valentine’s Day at Highcross

By Tyler Arthur

Leicester Tigers players thrilled fans at the Highcross shopping centre when they turned up to give away prizes and celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Four players from the Leicester Tigers came out to the event to pose for photos, have fun with some of the younger fans, and help with the spin-the-wheel game – where participants could win prizes, including tickets to the Leicester Tigers’ home fixture against the Northampton Saints in April.

Representing the local favourites were Tom Brady (Winger), Will Evans (Back Row), Jonah Holmes (Winger), Michele Rizzo (Prop) – each one getting involved, and bringing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Will, 21, said: “We are here today to give out treats and spread the Leicester Tigers’ words.

“Obviously, it’s Valentine’s Day, so it’s about celebrating the love of the club, and you can make a connection with fans, which is nice.”

“Our team is a massive part of the city, if the Leicester City badge was here people would be crowding around that as well. It’s people’s heritage, there’s a tradition around the club that everyone can connect with in the community,” Will added.

Tom, 27, said: “It’s an enjoyable factor of coming to play for the Leicester Tigers, just because it’s such a big team in the city, how we’ve ingrained the club amongst the fans, and when you see the number of people that have turned up just to come and say hello, it’s a testament to that.

“When you see the support, and you see the kids’ faces, all the merchandise, it gives you a little boost,” he concluded.

The event was hosted by the Tigers, in conjunction with sponsors – the Nottingham Building Society.

Zachary Oldershaw, 22, property sales manager at the NBS, said: “I’m a local rugby fan myself, Leicester born and raised, so I’m really glad to be part of this day.”
