DMU Square Mile’s Bollywood Party returns next week in what promises to be a fun-filled evening for everyone.

Following its hugely successful inaugural event last year, the fundraiser will return on Friday, October 27, from 6pm at The Venue@DMU, in aid of the Square Mile India fund.

Tim Ince, projects and outreach co-ordinator, pictured, and Josh Hargreaves, public engagement officer, have helped organise the evening and both anticipate another highly profitable, enjoyable night.

Josh said: “You can get a taste of the Indian culture through the dancing, the food and the general atmosphere and it is part of a great cause.

“You get to have a great time but also know that your money is going to a worthwhile cause which both staff and students can see in front of them.”

Proceeds from the party, which totalled several thousand pounds last year, go towards supporting the children at the Gandhi Ashram, which Square Mile runs alongside Indian charity Manav Sadhna.

Through them, both Tim and Josh have had the opportunity to visit destitute Indian families, which Tim described as a “really eye-opening experience for everyone who goes, especially the DMU students who volunteered.”

He added: “They got to work with some of the poorest people in the world, some of the poorest families that live in slums in India where we have our new Square Mile. For them to be able to experience that kind of environment is really valuable. There is a lot to process and that is why these trips stay with you for a long time.”

Josh, who is making a return visit in three weeks, was similarly taken aback, saying: “You cannot really prepare for what you are going to see. When you are travelling around India, it is very eye-opening but when you are with the kids you forget all that’s around you and just focus on the children.

Tickets for the Bollywood Party cost £5 and can be reserved at: dmu.hubbub.net/p/Bollywood/.
