Dizzee Rascal: The ‘Man of the Hour’ at the O2

By Ruairi O’Connor

UK grime scene legend Dizzee Rascal came to Leicester last week (Tues, Oct 10) and lit up the O2 stage to prove he was well and truly back with a vengeance.

Promoting his new album, ‘Raskit’, the East London MC created a raucous atmosphere with a refreshing blend of his new, lively tunes off his new album; coupled with many ‘old-school’ grime anthems that his fans know and love.

The Mercury Award-winning artist sold out the venue and had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the beginning to the end of his set, which lasted just over an hour.

Even for fans who have seen Dizzee multiple times, it was a special experience.

DMU student, Ryan Leese, 20, was watching the ‘Boy in da Corner’ for the fifth time: “It was definitely one of his best performances I have seen.”

“He just looked reinvigorated, I think releasing the new album and it getting positive reviews has given him a new lease of life on stage – it’s really great to see.”

Dizzee was supported by another London act, Donae’o, who himself is promoting brand new music.

Donae’o, who has recently shot back into the limelight due to his collaborations with UK rapper Giggs, warmed the crowd up with a lively 45 minute set before the ‘main event’.
