An area of Leicester city centre was sectioned off on Friday after a suspicious package was sent to a business.
The incident was reported to police, leading to a number of police and fire crews being called to the scene.
Abdul Wahab, a shopworker on nearby Gallowtree Gate, said he was not shocked at the quick response of the police following the deaths in London last week.
“After all the news about the deaths in London the other day, and because people are paranoid of terrorism, I’m glad the police are on the scene as soon as possible,” Mr Wahab said.
On Friday, reports emerged of an unidentified package being delivered to Barclay’s on Humberstone Gate in the city centre.
The area was duly cordoned off as specialists arrived to begin an investigation.
Leicestershire Police later released a statement confirming no one had been injured.
Mr Wahab said he found out about the incident after trying to contact the bank for change.
After he was unable to get through, he walked around to find a large crowd of people behind tape.
“It was all a bit surreal, I was so confused what was happening,” he said.
“It did not affect us business-wise, but I noticed the area outside the shop was a lot busier than normal.”
The incident came just two days after five people died in London when Khalid Masood carried out an attack near the Palace of Westminster.
So-called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, which Mr Wahab said “definitely” impacted the response time of the police in Leicester.
