Team DMU defeated Team UoL 2-0 in a League of Legends competition as part of the Varsity Games in Leicester, powered by ESL.

All production and broadcast positions on the day were ran by students aspiring in these fields.

Two teams from De Montfort as well as Univeristy of Leicester battled to represent their University in the grand final, which DMU underdogs “Phil Brown’s boys” went on to win.

“It is always nice to see a good underdog story especially in Leicester, the team played very strong and fully deserved the victory,” said Shoutcaster Greg Cartwright.

The competition opened with a heated match, where CTC had the edge over UoL Tigers. This caused great reactions from the crowd and especially Shoutcaster Max Lonsdale, a Media and Communications student who is passionate about pursuing a career in commentary.

Phil Brown’s Boys, comprised of LAK4, ADC Blargian, jungler Kanzashi, obrowniie and Geeeeeeeeeeeeeee, outperform their DMU companions, DMU Telecom T1, in their first match before overcoming the odds to be crowned champions.

Commentator Cameron said before the game: “In my opinion a stomping victory for UOL, but who knows.”

The stream peaked at 1,700 current viewers and also appeared on the feature page of Twitch.tv

Lewis of team DMU seemed confident in an interview after the game: “We are the best, we’ve wanted this for weeks and we’re really happy to have won,” he said.
