Race for Leicester City job hots up as bookmakers name Foxes favourites

By Ollie Heppenstall

Leicester City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare is out in front in the race to become the Foxes’ new manager.

City’s impressive 3-1 win against Liverpool on Monday night seems to have given Shakespeare, a popular number two at the club under Ranieri, momentum ahead of other candidates.img_1788

Shakespeare is 15/8 with Ladbrokes and 11/10 with Skybet, however Leicester-based bookies, Mark Jarvis, have former England boss Roy Hodgson as favourite at 4/6 ahead of Shakespeare on 2/1, Guus Hiddink is 10/1 and former City boss Nigel Pearson and Alan Pardew both on 14/1.

David Chatwin, manager of the club’s official merchandise store, said: “There’s a few in the hat, but I’m definitely in favour of Roy Hodgson coming in.

“He’s got a lot of experience, particularly with keeping teams in the Premier League, and he’s managed England. You can’t really ask for more than that.”

Other names linked Screen Shot 2017-03-01 at 12.42.46.pngby both Mark Jarvis and Ladbrokes include former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal, former Chelsea, Spurs and England boss Glenn Hoddle, former Birmingham City manager and Leicester player Gary Rowett, and Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, who managed Leicester City from 1996 to 2000.
